Another successful summery shirt from my TNT pattern, good old Butterick 6026.
No such thing as too much color, folks.
(BTW, any sort of pattern semi-matchiness in these pics is totally accidental, as I didn’t have enough fabric to even think of matching.)
This is going to be SO nice in the hot weather (which will be here soon–we had a high of 84 F earlier this week!) I decided to use the sleeves on this one because I had enough fabric for them and I’ll actually get more use out of a blouse with sleeves; everything here in the desert is air-conditioned. So this will keep me from getting too cold in the A/C and too hot when outside.
I had to work a bit to get that last sleeve out of the fabric, as you can see below; I had to sew on a little strip of fabric to have enough width.
The only issue I have with this shirt (other than sewing the wrong edge of the collar pieces together and having to cut new pieces) is that the upper back is a little bit narrow–it could use maybe an inch more ease for when I raise my arms. Not a problem in the sleeveless version, but occasionally annoying in this one.
SO MANY TUCKS IN THIS.
24 TUCKS, PEOPLE.
STOP ME BEFORE I TUCK AGAIN.
But look at that picture just above one more time.
Notice anything weird?
It appears that I permanently ironed out the puckers in parts of this fabric when I pressed the tucks down. The shirt was washed and dried before these pics were taken–I expected the puckers to come back during that process.
Since when can you iron out the puckers in seersucker fabric? I thought that they were there to stay?
Whatever. I still love it.

The fabrics crazy….I love it! I have a piece of cotton with the exact same colours but different patten. Don’t have much but hopefully enough for a top 😃

It’s amazing how a different fabric can totally change the look of a pattern, isn’t it? And I was afraid the tucks wouldn’t really show up in this fabric, but they do. Thank you!

Love, love, love the fabric! Are you sure it’s seersucker and not plisse? They look almost the same but the process of getting the puckers into the fabric in the first place is different so the puckers in plisse are not as permanent.

Ah, I did not know that! I guess it must be plisse then . . . I did notice that this fabric is pretty stiff and very tightly woven (like cotton sheeting), not soft and loosely woven like seersucker usually is. Interesting–thank you for the tip!

I love this top! I just love the colors. And I’m so excited to learn about Seattle ReCreative!! It’s super close to my house and I didn’t even know it existed until I saw your photo on the Curvy Sewing Collective Flickr group! My daughter introduced me to Scrap in Portland (http://scrappdx.org/) and it’s one of the coolest places to shop, so it’s nice to know there’s something similar a bit closer to home. Yay!

It was actually Scrap PDX that led me to Seattle ReCreative–I saw a post on Scrap’s recent move on the “Hidden Portland for the Curious” Facebook page, then googled to see if there was anything similar in Seattle. I’ve been trying to spread the word on Seattle ReCreative since I went there; it’s such a cool place in such a cool neighborhood (I’m so totally jealous that you live nearby!) Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting!

I drive past it every day and last night on my way home from work I specifically looked for it. It can’t have been there all that long. There used to be a sewing studio in that space not terribly long ago. I’d never been there, but I kept thinking that I would give it a try sometime since I have to fight to use the dining room table a lot at home. Anyway, I’m hoping to go check it out this weekend.
I relatively recently started attempting to blog some of my makes, in case you’re interested in another local gal. http://www.clothinghacker.com/
