2015 FAL, Columbia Park, Kennewick, Oregon, Oregon Zoo, Portland, sewing, Sunday Sevens, Washington
Sunday Sevens is a series in which we post some pictures from our week and show a little bit of what we’ve been up to. See Natalie from Threads and Bobbins for more info.
A bit late to the party after a fun weekend in Portland.
Preparations for my mother’s new carpet continue. I brought her some boxes this week so that she could start packing some things up. I’m also hoping she might donate a few things, as her three-bedroom house is jam-packed full of stuff.
So far, she’s donated this jar, a throw, and an unused set of sheets.
Three down, ten million to go.
More thinking about sewing than actual sewing this week, but I did do some darning on my honey’s jeans; they were in excellent condition except for tears at the inner corners of both back pockets.
Saving usable clothing from the landfill feels like a big ol’ win.
And I got the super-sized snaps onto my fleece jacket! For those following along at home, that’s two finishes toward my goal of ten by the end of the year.
Took a walk with my mother to the fishing pond at the far end of Columbia Park.
We spent the weekend in Portland; on Saturday, my partner went off on a bike ride with his buddies, and I went to the Oregon Zoo.
Here’s an eagle for ya (another one is behind the trunk of the tree).
Isn’t this a beautiful place?
And a cheetah:
And (slightly less majestic) Naked Mole Rats sleeping in a heap.
And, just for fun, a couple of bonus pictures of the fall colors from the drive back home on Sunday.
This is at the Starbuck’s in Hood River, OR.
And a tree farm near the Oregon-Washington border:
Have a great week, everybody.

The mole rats took some picking out, are they supposed to be camouflaged? The eagle looks impressive. Looks like you’ve gas another busy week! 😃

They sort of blend into the rock that they’re burrowed into, but it helps if you enlarge the picture. You can’t see it very well in the picture, but they have quite impressive top and bottom teeth, presumably for digging those burrows. Not the cutest animals, but I liked the way they were all piled up. 😉

Gorgeous photos, love seeing the other side of the world at this time of year! 🙂 Your mum sounds like me. My ‘big clean out’ the other day resulted in one plastic bag. A little one.

Love your photos, too! Not a lot of koalas around these parts. 😉
I have some things I don’t let go of, craft stuff being the biggest category there. Unlike other junk that people tend to hang onto “just in case,” I find that I do actually use things that have been in my craft stash for a long time. And I generally keep clothes if I like them and they fit, no matter how long it’s been since I wore them. Other stuff I just want gone, though. We have a pretty small house, and I’ve moved enough to always have the next move in the back of my mind.

My husband’s jeans have that exact same problem. And I have the exact same problem as your mother – stuff! I can never let go of more than three or four things at a time it seems like.

The wear on the jeans is somewhat mysterious to me–what’s causing the stress there? The only thing I can think of is that he tends to lean back in his chair a lot of the time, so maybe that’s pulling on the pockets?
Somewhere along the way, I’ve come to really like having less stuff . . . it feels freeing to me to let things go that I don’t love. Maybe it’s because I’ve moved so many times. 😉 I don’t think there’s going to be much donating happening at my mom’s house, though; she told me today that she’s freaked out by just boxing up and temporarily moving her stuff WITHIN HER OWN HOUSE.

Hi again! Do you happen to know if the winners of the 2015 Q4 FAL were ever chosen? I can’t seem to find a post about it anywhere; I asked over at On the Windy Side and never got a response.
